This product is harvested from Aquilaria (Dó Bầu) trees grown naturally in Central Vietnam. When the tree matures, agarwood craftsmen drill holes, cut diagonally, and create wounds on the trunk. As the tree heals, it secretes resin to cover the wounds—this biological process forms agarwood.
After a certain period, depending on the tree’s condition, the craftsmen fell the tree and begin splitting and scraping the trunk to find agarwood. The amount of resin depends on luck and the tree’s natural response.
“Đầu chui” or "Angle oud wood" agarwood refers to pieces found in cavities or holes of the trunk. These are scraped clean of white or brown wood and dust, leaving only the resin-rich agarwood. The rustic term “đầu chui” is used by local craftsmen to describe this form.
